Notes from the Finisher

Every effort is made to block all needlework canvases to their original shape and size. However, we cannot be responsible for pieces maintaining their shape after being sewn, if they were:

  • Stitched in continental without frame or stretcher bars.
  • Stitched in several directions (using tent stitches). This occurs when turning the canvas different ways each time it is picked up. We suggest marking "top."
  • Stitching so close to the edge of a canvas that it frays when handled, leaving no room for blocking. We suggest leaving 1/2" unworked area around pieces.
  • Using pens, pencils, etc. that are not waterproof, as well as fibers that can bleed, melt, disintegrate or otherwise come apart in blocking.
  • Round canvases and those that are not stitched on a frame. Every effort is made to block and sew correctly; however, it is sometimes necessary to sew into the worked canvas to get the proper shape.
