Winter certainly came snowing and blowing its way in this year.  There isn’t a winter sport thathasn’t been blessed with perfect conditions.  It’s been many seasons since we’ve had meaningful snow accumulation.  Have fun while it lasts, spring comes next.

There are many of us who will choose a brisk walk in the winter wonderland, and then a quiet corner in our homes with time to knit, stitch or bead.  Just think what we can accomplish during the next three months.  One or two sweaters, several pairs of socks, a lovely needlepoint piece or two, several pieces of hand made jewelry, a healthy start for the next gift-giving occasion.

Let’s start with knitting.  Socks seem to be the number one choice for knitters these days.  They are a little more difficult and they take longer than scarves, but well worth the effort for the new knitter and a fun project for the seasoned knitter.  You can select the yarn, the method you prefer to use and the pattern.  Remember you are always welcome to come in with any problems you may have and we’ll be glad to help you with it.  One of the benefits of sock knitting is that you learn increasing, decreasing, short rowing, knitting in the round and the kitchner stitch  (finishing the toe) or just weaving the toe in.  If you’re a new knitter and want to start a sweater this is a great time of year to do it.  Don’t set a time limit for yourself, just get started and work on it a little each week, but do have some small projects (socks, scarves, mittens, hats) to work on also.  It’s always nice to finish something, and somehow it makes the BIG project less over whelming.  There’s open knitting on Thursdays starting at 2 in the afternoon and running through to 8 p.m.  Everyone is most welcome.

The long evenings of winter are perfect for the stitcher to work on a ‘in progress’ piece or something new.  If it’s to be something new we have hundreds of hand painted canvases to choose from, many at 50% off the original price.  You’ll find a wide selection of fibers to stitch with, too.  Tuesday evening is ‘Stitching Night’ and everyone is welcome, help is always available.

Beading is a pleasant way to spend an evening or a day. Spread out your project, look through your stash, and visit us to round out the beads needed to complete the project. Anyone who has done beading knows you can loose yourself in the creative process.  Beading can be quick, or take some serious time.  The beading magazines are full of great projects, from the simplest to the very advanced; a good source of encouragement, and help.  Beading has become very popular with mothers and their children, lots of good together time while encouraging the creative skills of all involved.
