I was
born and raised as an only child by two wonderful parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. Creative influences bombarded
me on all sides as I began to sew, knit, cross-stitch, and needlepoint
at a very early age. My father was in the Air Force, so we traveled
frequently in the summer. Those trips included my mother's magical
wicker basket filled with colorful yarns, materials, beads, laces,
and threads from which I was encouraged to create masterpieces.
My creative influence dominated my life through my college years.
At Stephens College, I
came to realize that stitching was my companion next to my horses
and expanded my talents to hand-painted canvases and room-sized
rugs. To my surprise, the local needlepoint stores encouraged
me to stitch their samples and paid me in wool skeins. I then began
creating my own canvases and stitching customs designs for clients.
Still denying my artistic
talents. I received my B.A. in child psychology and my Master
of Education. I married and found myself in Puerto Rico. Where
I taught at a bilingual, private elementary school. In my free
time I learned the art of ceramics, which I didn't know would
be the foundation for my dimensional needlework later in my life.

The love of my life, my
son A.J. was born and has continued to be my source of inspiration
and joy. We moved to Virginia Beach where I gave up teaching to
raise my son. Needlepoint was still my passion.
At my mother's insistence
I created a Pierrot needlepoint body to accompany one of the ceramic
clown faces that I had made her for a gift. Mother sold them
in my home town in South Dakota and a business was born. FACES.
The next thing I knew I was selling them in New York City, reps
all over and a demand I could hardly keep up with. The business
flourished and sales grew. A move to Michigan for my husband's
career proved fatal to my marriage. With A.J. in hand I went back
to teaching special education and tried to manage single parenthood,
career and the business. Something had to give and I put FACES
on the shelf for a few years. I never stopped creating, but had
to stop painting and selling nationally. With A.J. now in high
school and a high school hockey player it was time to come back
to the marketplace.... And a new FACES was born.
I am excited and rejuvenated
with this business as I meet new friends and rekindle old acquaintances.
The Internet has opened new doors and I look forward to meeting
new customers and fellow stitchers. Please feel free to contact
me with any comments. questions, or suggestions about my work.
My fingers are busy daily, as I look forward to sharing my new
designs with you.
